5 Proven Strategies for Empowering Your Network Marketing Team

I’m Rachel DeAlto, a network marketing motivational speaker and relatability expert who helps leaders build better teams using 5 connection–strengthening strategies.

There’s no “I” in “team”. We’ve all heard this saying—and in network marketing, that statement couldn’t be more true! Your success as a network marketing professional hinges on your ability to grow, motivate, and empower your team while serving your customer base.

If only cultivating a strong, productive team is was as easy as scrolling through our social feeds. We all know it takes a lot more work to strengthen the bonds that drive real, collaborative performance—and most people just don’t know how.

Because of this, teams break down more than they build momentum. In fact, according to one study, 44% of network marketing professionals quit within just one year. That number jumps to a shocking 90% within five years.

It’s notoriously difficult to grow and maintain a team. And it’s even more challenging to empower those team members to cultivate their own successful networks and resources.

That’s where the power of real, human connection comes in.

The strategies I’ll share today leverage the power of connection to help network marketing professionals empower their team to success. They’re not one-and-done tips. These strategies are long-term leadership habits that build mature, stable teams.

Use these 5 strategies to empower your network marketing team to success:

1. Recruit people with a similar vision and values

Network marketing is a volunteer career. That’s what makes it so flexible, but also so challenging for leaders. You can’t make your team members prioritize your vision, values, and goals… At least, not for long!

If you want to build a team that’s with you for the long haul, find team members who share your same vision and values from the start.

As a network marketing motivational speaker, I teach professionals how to find, relate to, and connect with others in a really powerful way. When you unlock your emotional intelligence, your team-building skills flourish. And finding the right team members, the ones with complementary skills, values, and vision, becomes second nature.

2. Set goals for your team and track their progress

When your whole team is working towards a shared goal— with a shared reward tied to it!— collaboration, teamwork, and loyalty come naturally.

The best team goals are those that align with your team members’ goals. That way, as each team member works towards their own vision, the whole team benefits, and sees real, trackable progress.

3. Celebrate each victory, no matter how small it may seem

Praise is one of the most powerful motivators out there. When you take the time to recognize your team members’ wins— whether large or small!— I can promise you, they’ll remember it.

Announce the wins in front of your team at your next meeting. Include a Team Wins section in your email or newsletter. Send a small gift, or give your team member a call. Celebrating doesn’t have to be expensive! A little time spent recognizing your team’s victories goes a long way towards keeping them happy, loyal, and connected.

4. Encourage your team to support and help each other

We all want to be in a community. There’s something special about belonging to a group of like-minded people with the same mission, vision, and goals. That sense of belonging creates wonderful loyalty— to your team and to the brand.

One way to create community is to inspire collaboration among your team members. Give them opportunities to work together, teach one another, and celebrate each others’ wins along the way.

Here are a few collaboration ideas to get you started:

  • If you host team meetings, at each session, invite a team member to teach about a topic they know well

  • Got a company event coming up? Have your team break into small groups and carpool to the event

  • Periodically host non-business gatherings to give your team the chance to connect on a personal level. Think: A picnic, movie premier, or a catered dinner at your place.

5. Cultivate new leaders

One of the best benefits of a network marketing business is the flexibility and free time that comes with owning your own business. But to step away from your work and enjoy those benefits, you’ve got to have layers of leadership in your team.

Rather than having your entire team rely on you for all their training, support, and accountability, raise up new leaders within your group. When they’re empowered to success, your whole team benefits— and you have the freedom to take a self-care day, when needed.
