7 Reasons I Became a Motivational Speaker

People often become motivational speakers because of a life-changing experience, whether it be positive or negative. They've climbed Everest, escaped death, or accomplished something amazing against all odds. I'm not one of those speakers. Sure, I've overcome challenges, and I do share much of my story in my keynotes, but I became a motivational speaker for these seven reasons...

1. I realized that my message needed to be shared

In a world where we are more connected than ever, we have never been more alone. Strong social connection strengthens your health, lengthens your life, reduces levels of anxiety and depression, and improves self-esteem. Yet, the ability to build connections eludes so many. Our relationships are the foundation of our success - in business and in life. As a speaker, my keynotes and masterclasses help organizations and audiences rethink relationship-building and create cultures of connection.

2. I am driven to help others achieve their goals.

I have always been goal driven, and feel incredibly lucky that, as a motivational speaker, I am able to help people achieve their personal and professional goals. It is a privilege to be part of someone's journey, whether we are helping them create new connections or develop better teams.

3. I love the power of storytelling.

I've always been a big fan of stories. Reading fiction has been a huge part of my life since I was very young. I loved how stories could transport me to different worlds and introduce me to new ideas and characters. And now, as an adult, I find myself drawn to stories in my speaking. I love how they can motivate and inspire us, teaching us important lessons about life. And as a motivational speaker, I often use stories to engage and connect with my audience - about my own life, and others. I truly believe in the power of storytelling, and I'm grateful that it's something that I can share with others.

4. I love being able to make a difference in someone's life.

There is nothing more rewarding than being a motivational speaker and knowing that you have made a difference in someone's life. Knowing that you may have helped them to see the possibilities in their own lives and to believe in themselves is an amazing feeling.

5. I'm passionate about helping people find their purpose.

A cornerstone of relatability is knowing your "then what." What lights you up? What drives you? What is your purpose? Purpose has been found to be one of the most powerful predictors of overall well-being. As a motivational speaker, I'm passionate about helping people find their purpose, their "then what" - because it is the key to a fulfilling life.

6. I want to make a difference in the world.

Not only do I get to touch individuals' lives as a motivational speaker, but I also have the chance to make an impact on society at large. Changing the way people think about connection and communicating allows a ripple effect to occur. Helping organizations build cultures of connection creates teams that are happier, more productive, and more positive in every area of their lives. Creating a global movement of connection one organization and one person at a time - that's my goal.

7. I love the energy of an audience.

This one may be purely selfish. As a motivational speaker, I LOVE the energy of an audience. There is nothing like being in front of a group of people who are engaged and excited to be there. When I'm speaking, I feel like I'm where I'm meant to be and there are very few places I'd rather be.

So, there they are, the seven reasons why I became a motivational speaker. It’s been an amazing experience, and I am looking forward to continuing on this path. What about you? What is your story? I would love to hear from you!
